Quinn Touts Fall in Jobless Rates
CHICAGO (AP) -- Governor Pat Quinn is hailing a drop in the Illinois unemployment rate to below 10 percent for the first time since April 2009.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security said Thursday the state's September jobless rate was 9.9 percent. That's down from 10.1 percent in August and from 11.5 percent in March.

While there were almost 660,000 without work last month, Illinois gained more than 8,600 jobs.

Later Thursday, Quinn pointed to what he described as his job-creation policies. He says that includes setting aside state funds to fix roads.

But a spokesman for his Republican opponent in the governor's race, Bill Brady, notes that the job picture has been bleak since Quinn took office.

Overall, Patty Schuh says the state has lost 200,000 private-sector jobs during Quinn's term.
