New DARE Officer Ready to Take Over in Galesburg
A Galesburg Police officer who's overseen an important program reaching out to local schools is about to call it a career.

Officer John Woolsey is getting set to retire at the end of the year. He's been the Galesburg Police Department's "DARE" officer for the last six years.

But Woolsey tells WGIL his replacement is ready for the job.

"Steffanie Cromein, out of all the officers that applied for the job, she really came through. She's really right now working with me to get introduced to the teachers and faculty, and all the teachers have really been welcoming her very well and I think she will do a tremendous, good job."

Woolsey, Cromein, and others will be a part of the 5th annual "Break a Board for DARE" fundraiser Saturday at the Carl Sandburg College Gym from 1 to 3 p.m.

Organizers say in addition to board breaking by students at "Kuk Sul Won," there will also be self defense demonstrations, and even a hot wing eating contest.
