Amtrak Sets New Record
Amtrak ridership has set a new record.

Total ridership is at 28.7 million, up nearly six percent over last year. It also took in over 1.75 billion dollars in ticket revenue.

Marc Magliari, spokesman for Amtrak, says every route in Illinois carried more passengers.

"There were steep increases across Illinois. The downstate routes that are supported by the state of Illinois saw significant increases, Chicago/St. Louis eleven percent, Chicago to Carbondale up five percent and Chicago/Quincy up three percent."

The Chicago to Quincy route runs through Galesburg, and as Magliari said, it's ridership was up 239,000 passengers.

He says the increase in ridership is due to the improved economy and wifi service on one route in the north east, new cars, and customer frustration with airlines and gas prices.
