Statewide Community College Enrollment Increases
(IRN) -- It's another banner year for community colleges in Illinois. The Illinois Community College Board is announcing that full-time equivalency enrollment has hit a new record. The fall FTE, which refers to the enrollment if every student were taking 15 credit hours, is at 224,803 for this fall semester. That's a 0.4 percent increase over last fall.

Headcount enrollment, which counts all students once regardless of course load, is at its second highest level. It's now at 379,000 students, down from 383,000 last year.

Steve Morse, board spokesman, says students are taking more classes than ever before, and that the numbers show that students are using community colleges to enhance their careers. He says that while community colleges have been struggling to meet this increased demand with lower support from state government, and with late payments, he says the colleges are pleased with the support they're getting.
