"Knox County Progressives" Rally; Government Programs a "Saving Grace" for One
Democrat or Republican, Erma Olson of Galesburg says government is moving in the right direction.

Olson spoke during a Progressive Party rally Saturday in Galesburg about her family's recent struggles, but the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act helped.

Olson's husband was laid off after 26 years and he then had health issues to deal with.

Their home was foreclosed, health insurance was too costly and unemployment was running out, but then Olson learned Congress had approved a plan to extend unemployment benefits and cover 65 percent of Cobra insurance costs.

She tells WGIL it was a saving grace and now she just hopes the programs continue.

"Be it Republican or Democrat, I just want them to take care of us, to be progressive," Olson said, "everybody, be it kids that can't go to school and want to go to school, parents that need health care for their kids that are in school, or their children that aren't, I'm all for it."

Olson was one of a number of speakers who gave personal testimony about the benefits of government in America today.
