Tribune/WGN Poll is Good News for Kirk
CHICAGO (AP) -- A new poll shows Republican Mark Kirk has a slight lead over Democrat Alexi Giannoulias, and support for Kirk among independents and suburban Chicago voters is climbing.

The Chicago Tribune/WGN poll shows Kirk with a 44 percent to 41 percent advantage over Giannoulias. While that is within the poll's margin of error, four weeks ago, the Tribune/WGN poll showed Giannoulias held a 38 percent to 36 percent edge over Kirk.

The paper reports that Kirk, with a big cash advantage, has been hitting the airwaves hard with TV attack ads. Those ads and other commercials by GOP-aligned groups seem to be paying off. The poll also found the percentage of voters who consider him more trustworthy than Giannoulias has climbed a bit.
