State Senator Calls for more Candidate Disclosure
(IRN)-Political candidates should tell us more about their personal dealings, a state senator says.

A bill to be introduced in the November Veto Session, S.B. 2216, would require candidates to disclose income, donations, property interests, liabilities, other positions held, outside employment and gifts, and it would require disclosure of the financial interests of immediate family members. The sponsor, State Sen. Dan Kotowski, says it's what the people want.

"They want their candidates, and they want people in positions of leadership, to fully disclose information about their financial dealings, because they don't want anything, anything, to compromise the ability of this person to lead in an unbiased way," he said.

The measure would also require disclosure from appointees to boards and commissions as to whether they had donated money to a politician or a politician's legal defense fund, and the name of any family member who is a registered lobbyist.

These statements would have to be filed electronically so they would be compiled in a searchable database.
