GREDA Chief Still Waiting
The new president of the Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association says he'd love nothing more than to get back into the good graces of the City of Galesburg, but he says he, like others, is still waiting on something to happen first.

GREDA president Tom Schmidt was a part of a number of city hosted sessions that were held at the entity he was president of at the time, Carl Sandburg College. They were called "visioning sessions" designed to help give the city a roadmap for growth.

But Schmidt tells WGIL's "Galesburg Live" he's still wondering about the outcome of those sessions held almost two years ago.

"In some respects I'm still waiting for that visioning process to be articulated, so that GREDA as but one player in this community, has context within which we can provide our services. I'm still waiting for that to happen as an individual citizens and now as a CEO of a public economic development organization."

Schmidt says a broad vision needs to be developed for Galesburg. He says he's still committed to a public-private partnership like GREDA.

Schmidt says he's optimistic that some day, the two entities will come together again.
The city pulled its support of GREDA as of early 2009.
