Local College Students say Financial Aid is Critical
Students need financial aid. That was the main message from students invited to speak during a legislative luncheon at Carl Sandburg College Monday, giving local legislators the opportunity to hear directly from students.

Cassie Singleton says she works two part time jobs to help pay for her education and knows many other students that share her same story.

"Out of many people I know at CSC, half of them get financial aid and without that, they wouldn't be able to continue their education. Neither of my parents went to college because they couldn't afford it and they didn't have the financial assistance that I can get, and that is why I want to make a better future for myself and financial assistance allows me to do that. The more financial aid given, the more students have a chance to make a better life for themselves."

Members of CSC's board of trustees attended the luncheon, to which state Senator from the 37th district Dale Risinger, state Representative of the 74th district Don Moffitt were invited and attended.

State Senator John Sullivan from the 47th district, state Representative Rich Myers from the 94th district, and Congressman Phil Hare were invited as well but could not attend.
