Kilbride Campaign Race Sets Record
(IRN)-One of the election races has set a new record in Illinois, but a good government group says that's not a good thing.

The retention campaign of Illinois Supreme Court Justice Thomas Kilbride has drawn some big money. The Kilbride side has raised $2.48 million, while the opposition has raised $667,000. The Illinois Campaign for Political Reform says that makes this race the most expensive one candidate judicial race, and the second most expensive retention race in the country.

Cindi Canary, ICPR executive director, notes that more than $1.4 million on Kilbride's side comes from the Democratic Party of Illinois, and JUSTPAC, the political committee of the Illinois Civil Justice League, has fueled the opposition. Canary says this politicizes what should be a politics free race, and hopes state lawmakers will move to a publicly financed system to help keep the politics out.

Opponents are troubled by Kilbride's vote on the court to overturn medical malpractice reform and other cases.
