Missing NIU Student Believed Dead
(IRN)-Authorities say the human remains found in a forested park near the Northern Illinois University campus in DeKalb were badly burned. Authorities believe the remains to be those of the 18 year old freshman girl who disappeared while walking in the park on October 14th.

Antinette "Toni" Keller, an art major, told friends she was headed to the park for a walk and to work on an art project.

Authorities say they believe the remains to be Keller's because of some items found nearby that are believed to have belonged to the young woman. NIU spokesman Joe King cited police as saying the state of the remains complicates the process of confirming the remains are Keller's

Keller was from Plainfield in Will County. She graduated this year from Nequa Valley High School in Naperville.

DeKalb Police Chief Bill Feithen told reporters investigators are now treating what had been a missing persons case as a homicide. He said there's someone out there who "committed this" and they are not in custody.

Hundreds of students, some who knew Keller and others who did not, held a candle-lit vigil on the campus last night.
