Vivian Joins Peoria Zoo's Cast of Giraffes
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- There's a new giraffe in town, and her name is Vivian.

The Journal Star reports the Peoria Zoo added Vivian earlier this month to its "Africa!" exhibit after the June 2009 death of another giraffe, Savannah.

Dawn Petefish is the curator of collections at the zoo. She says Vivian came to Peoria from Riverbank Zoo and Gardens in Columbia, S.C., where she was born 15 months ago.

Petefish says Vivian is 9 1/2 feet tall and weighs 641 pounds.

The zoo plans to eventually move Vivian in with its other giraffe, Taji. They now live in side-by-side enclosures. They also hope to add a third giraffe by spring.
