Local GOP Lawmakers Talk Taxes
Talk of an income tax increase has circulated throughout the election season.

Republican Senator Dale Risinger of the 37th district says taxes may increase after the election, but it depends on who wins the governorship.

"Brady has said that he won't support a tax increase if he is elected governor, but he doesn't pass the tax increase, he can veto it if he is governor, but you know you can also override a veto."

Risinger was referring to State Senator Bill Brady, the Republican candidate for governor who promises not to raise taxes.

His major opponent is Democratic incumbent Governor Pat Quinn, who has called for a tax increase all along to help fund education.

Risinger says he could possibly for an increase, if the revenue was used to help balance the budget and pay off debt, not create new programs.

Risinger visited the Carl Sandburg Campus in Galesburg Monday.
