Sexually Transmitted Diseases Increasing Among Young People
(IRN)-The number of young people contracting sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV, is increasing. Experts at the Illinois Department of Public Health's HIV-STD conference in Springfield say they're trying to increase awareness, get more parents involved, and stop bullying.

New numbers show a 10 percent increase in HIV cases among people ages 13 to 29. IDPH STD division chief Charlie Rabins says the numbers mean that more people must get involved in talking about HIV, chlamydia, and all other STDs. He says parents should have conversations with their kids, and schools and organizations should do more to develop community plans on how to slow the rate of infection.

But he's also worried about bullying. Rabins says there should be "zero tolerance" of bullying, and worries that such cases will keep people who are gay from getting tested or getting help.
