Employee Concessions an Issue for Knox County Budget
County employees may have to give up pay increases in order to balance the budget for Knox County.

Randy Lynch, a local AFSCME union representative, however says no one was told about the possible change.

"There's some issues that are very concerning, the lack of communication for one thing. It hasn't been put out to anybody besides in the newspapers with Mr. Bacon that now the new proposal is one percent wage increase and all the union employees are supposed to have 4 percent this year."

Wayne Saline, chair of the county's finance committee, says that is not true.

"There's several misconceptions floating around, some were stated tonight. Mr. Lynch stood up and said that he didn't know what we were doing, but he was at a meeting and we told him right to his face exactly what we were going to do and he didn't want to address that."

Board members voted Wednesday to place the budget on public display.

The proposed budget gives county employees, a one percent pay raise, instead of the 4 percent as stated in their contracts.

Layoffs are possible if county employees do not accept the concession.
