Chicago Jewish Groups on Alert for Odd Packages
CHICAGO (AP) -- The director of a Chicago Jewish institution says his staff is on alert for suspicious packages after reports that explosive materials were intercepted on their way from Yemen to the United States.

Chicago FBI spokesman Ross Rice says two suspicious packages were addressed to religious institutions in Chicago.

Dan Elbaum is regional director of the American Jewish Committee Chicago.

He says staffers have been told to isolate and contain any suspicious packages and to notify law enforcement. He says he contacted people he knows in law enforcement but wasn't able to learn anything specific about the target.

Linda Haase of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago says the group was notified early Friday and is "taking appropriate precautions."
