Franklin Takes Over Rock Island University of Illinois Extension Offices
The man who's been at the helm of the Knox County University of Illinois Extension office for about the last decade is moving on.

Wednesday was Tony Franklin's last day as Knox County Extension Director. Partly as a result of the ongoing consolidation of state Extension offices due to budget cuts, Franklin will be director starting Monday of the Henry-Stark-Mercer-Rock Island County Extension.

Franklin tells WGIL he's making the best of what really isn't an ideal situation.

"We all had to re-apply for positions, the call came from the regional director asking if I would accept the position with unit 7. I kind of took a deep gulp and said, "I'll get back to you." But basically I had put in for three different positions, Knox County of course being my first option, and the Rock Island unit being my second one so I ended up getting my second option I guess you can look at it that way."

The Knox County Extension office is consolidating with Warren, Henderson, and McDonough Counties at a site to be determined.

McDonough Extension Director Lisa Fulkerson is becoming director for this unit starting Monday, and Franklin says he has confidence Fulkerson will do a great job.
