Federal Grant for Galesburg Not Official Yet
A grant Galesburg Mayor Sal Garza announced a couple weeks ago apparently wasn't official yet.

That's because the Galesburg City Council tonight is expected to vote to formally approve a grant agreement with the U.S. Department of Commerce that will provide the city $1.2 million over the next three years, along with a $500,000 in local matching funds.

The money, as Garza announced in a press conference a few weeks ago, will help create what the city is calling the "Entrepreneurs Innovate and Go Global Initiative," a program that essentially helps create a new entrepreneurship center, and is expected to help local businesses expand, even possibly outside the city's borders.

City Economic Development Director Cesar Suarez called the money at the time a, quote "game changer," and is allowing the city to create 10 different programs.

City Council documents also indicate that three full time jobs and one part time job will be created as a result of the program's implementation.

The Galesburg City Council meets at 6:30 Monday evening inside City Hall.
