Rotary Park Plan Tabled by City Council
A decade has passed since any updates were made to the Rotary Park Development Plan in Galesburg.

But the Rotary Club of Galesburg intends to change that. The club wants to celebrate its 100th anniversary big in three years by adding a number of attractions to Rotary Park.

Plans include adding permanent restrooms, a walking-jogging path, zero depth spray-water park, and ice rink.

Not everyone is thrilled with the plan, however, including residents like Debbie Johnston, who lives right next to the park.

"It encroaches on a lot of the open space," Johnston said. "The more open space you have, the more freedom people have to use it as they see fit. As you can tell [by the map pictured below], the skate part number two, and the spray park number three, sit extremely close to residential properties. These are things...you are going to have squealing children with delight, and that's something we all want. We just don't necessarily want it in our bedroom and dining room windows."

Johnston adds they are looking forward to many of the upgrades, but believes they should be done in a different way.

City council members voted to table the upgrade plan until November. That allows the Rotary Club to get in touch with neighbors of the park and get their input on the plan.
