Man Struck by Freight Train Has Died
A Galesburg man has died, hours after he was first struck by a freight train Monday evening.

Galesburg Police say they were notified by the Peoria County Coroner around 1:40am Tuesday that 39-year old Erick Stevenson died at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.

Stevenson was taken there from Galesburg Cottage Hospital after the incident.

Officials say officers were first sent to the crossing near North and Kellogg Streets around 8:15pm Monday, after eyewitnesses said they saw a pedestrian headed southbound on Kellogg Street trying to cross the tracks.

Police say Stevenson didn't make it, getting hit by a train headed westbound.

No one else was hurt.

Officials say the freight train was stopped for a time, but was later sent on its way after being checked out.

An investigation, they say, is ongoing.
