Kotowski Searches for Budget Solutions
(IRN)-It could save money for taxpayers. It could lead to state government programs being cut. The legislature is about to start what it calls "budgeting for results" as required by a new law.

State Senator Dan Kotowski, who will be leading this effort, says this new system will cut waste, because it will force lawmakers to define the spending priorities, determine which projects are getting results, and allow them to cut or reform programs based on the results.

"What that will allow us to do is confront waste, corruption, fraud and mismanagement in our state," said Kotowski. He says program funding will be "based on performance, based on production, based on impact, not politics and self-interest."

Kotowski says he'll work with other senators to form a bipartisan group of people from the public, private, and non-profit sectors to establish the priorities. He hopes to name the initial participants by the end of the month.
