Reporting Deer Roadkill Claims in IL
(IRN)-There is a new state policy when it comes to keeping your road kill.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources now requires individuals who wish to claim a deer killed in a vehicle collision to report the possession through the internet or by phone.

DNR spokeswoman Januari Smith says the reporting will help keep better track of the deer population.

The deer must be reported within 24 hours using the new online DNR Road Kill Deer Reporting Form which can be found on the department's website. Those without access to the internet can call the DNR no later than 4:30 p.m. on the next business day at 217-782-6431. Individuals who don’t want to take possession are not required to fill out a report.

Road kill deer may be claimed only by Illinois residents who are not delinquent on child support payments and do not have their wildlife privileges suspended in any state.
