War Of Words Continues Between School District And Union
The Galesburg School District has now officially responded to the picketing done Monday night by the Galesburg Education Association as the days move on without a contract.

District-205 Superintendent Gene Denisar says in a news release that the district values its teachers and paraprofessionals and he believes diligent work has been done in order to try to come to terms on a new contract, almost two months after the most previous one expired.

But Denisar also claims that the district wanted to work on negotiations as early as April 11th of this year, and that the G-E-A did not agree to negotiations until about two months later.

What's more, Denisar says 90 different proposals for a contract were put on the table by the union, but during talks yesterday, roughly 40 of those proposals were withdrawn.

The G-E-A says they asked the district in March to negotiate, but didn't hear back until April, and later couldn't negotiate for awhile due to a medical procedure a team member would be having done.

They also say that about a fifth of the 90 requests were simply corrections of dates or typos.

Mediation talks are scheduled for Monday and Wednesday of next week. Both sides agree talks yesterday were productive.
