Adult Use Ordinance Jumps Another Hurdle
The Knoxville Planning Commission is placing their trust on the shoulders of the city's lawyers.

The adult use ordinance was approved by the group Wednesday night. The commission's Tom Hoehne says they should rely on the lawyer's judgement in the ordinance because that is what they get paid to do.

"I think this has been turned over to the lawyers who are probably a lot more knowledgeable than us about the different things that need to be included in this," Hoehne said. "They've had the Germantown Hills one, which I am sure they resolved in making and modeling the Knoxville one after that."

The ordinance states adult use businesses must be a minimum of 1,000 feet from any school, business, or residence.

Other parameters for Knoxville's ordinance, modeled after Germantown Hills, include hours of operation and prohibiting of sexual intercourse or nudity.

The adult use ordinance will next go before the Zoning Board of Appeals before appearing again in front of the Knoxville City Council.
