Police Investigate Car-Versus-Train Accident
FIRST REPORTED 6am, UPDATED 1pm 10/13/11 Galesburg Police have released more details on an accident involving a car and a freight train early Thursday morning.

Police officials say a 1997 Honda C-R-V was struck by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Freight Train at 4:13 AM. They say there is no railway crossing where the accident occurred, about 30 feet south of North Cedar Street and West Water Street. Police indicate 25 year old Galesburg man Daniel Gray allegedly drove his vehicle onto the tracks while under the influence of alcohol.

However, officers say there are no injuries, and that Gray and a group others gave up on trying to push the vehicle off the tracks when they heard the train approaching.

Officers and firefighters were called to the railroad tracks, and railroad traffic was delayed until word of a train passing through the area around 5:45 AM.

An accident report reveals over $1500 in damage from the accident, with the front of the BNSF and Honda C-R-V taking the brunt of the damage.

Gray is being charged with driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed.
