Nearly A Grand Taken From HyVee Register
Two women walked out of the Galesburg HyVee on National Boulevard Wednesday with a five dollar international phone card, but also almost a thousand dollars richer.

Police say they responded to the store at 2:18 Wednesday afternoon, more than an hour after two women allegedly stole $960 dollars from the customer service register.

A police report indicates the store manager presented officers with video surveillance showing a woman appearing to put something in her purse after reaching over the counter and into the register.

Police say the cashier claims another woman distracted her by requesting specific change from a fifty dollar bill being used to purchase the phone card. They say the cashier saw the other woman reach over and point out what she thought were the correct bills.

According to police the cashier says the entire exchange made her feel uncomfortable, and after their departure checked the register to find it $960 dollars short.

Police were told by the cashier the two had identified themselves as being "Swiss."

Records show one woman to be between the age of 20 and 30, wearing a tan top, blue jeans, and a baseball cap with dark hair. The other was between 40 and 50 years old, wearing a black hat, top, and skirt. Both were tan.

Police ask if you have any further information to please contact Crime-stoppers or the Galesburg Police Department.
