Close, But No Cigar For Health Department
A high score outlining strengths and only two weaknesses is something the Knox County Health Department is proud of, despite not earning the status the board desired.

"It doesn't matter we still got a 98 and that's pretty exciting."

That's administrator Heidi Britton, who was told by fellow board members last night that not being rewarded with a Federally Qualified Health Center status is still worth blowing praise.

She says the candidate number for such funding originally stood at 260 health centers, but dropped down to 60. Britton still holds out hope.

"They aren't awarding us because they can't award us because they didn't get funded, but we are still in the running," Britton said. "They're going to hold our application for up to a year. They have been known to go down, obviously they'll go down maybe to 95, or 93."

"But, I don't want to get everyone's hopes up, but I think there's a pretty darn good chance we're going to get funded."

The maximum funding or reimbursement for a FQHC is $650,000. If anything else, Britton says at least they acknowledged what the Knox County Health Department is doing right.
