MORE DETAILS: Truck Driver Hauling Cattle Trailer Identified
Illinois State Police says 59 year old Russel Hobbs of Versailles, Indiana, fell asleep before drifting into the center median on I-74 Friday morning.

Troopers and Henry County Sheriffs Deputies responded at 5:50 AM to Hobbs' truck hauling a trailer of cattle reportedly rolling onto its side and coming to rest.

Troopers say the accident occurred near mile post 24. They say it took emergency responders several hours to clear the wreckage and cattle who escaped the trailer.

A release from the state police states that Hobbs was cited for improper lane usage and driving a commercial motor vehicle license while ill or fatigued. Hobbs' was treated for injuries at St. Mary's in Galesburg, the severity of the injuries are unknown.

State police say two subsequent accidents occurred after 6 AM when two vehicles each struck a black angus cow wandering the interstate. 63 year old Lyle Austin of Galesburg and 41 year old George Adams suffered only minor injuries.

The number of cattle casualties hasn't been released, but authorities say multiple cows were put down shortly after from injuries sustained.

Authorities earlier asked motorists traveling through the Andover/ Lynn Center area to use alternative routes, but traffic is reportedly back to normal as of 10:30.

Troopers say the crash remains under investigation.
