Longtime Local Legislator Seeks Re-Election
He's going to do it again...

"I am announcing today that I will seek re-election for State Representative of the new 74th District."

State Representative Don Moffitt made that announcement Tuesday morning in front of the Abraham Lincoln statue outside the Galesburg Amtrak Depot. Moffitt has served in the Illinois House since 1993, and is a former Oneida and Knoxville alderman among other things.

The Gilson Republican tells WGIL he's running to help solve what he calls unfinished business.

"The most critical issue facing the state of Illinois obviously is to get its fiscal house in order, so that we can begin to get caught up in the payment of bills, and paying the vendors that we owe money," Moffit said. "It's important that we do that, that's the critical issue out there."

Moffitt says the Legislature made a first step toward solving the state's fiscal crisis last legislative session, but there needs to be a lot more done.

Moffitt is running for a re-drawn 74th district that, among other things, takes Abingdon and part of Galesburg away from him, and adds Mercer County and some other real estate -- if a court challenge holds up.

Moffitt ran two years ago against Galva Democrat Elizabeth Double by a nearly three-to-one margin. No one else has announced a candidacy for the seat.
