Council Elects To Approve Market Study
Alderman Monday night showed hesitation in approving the Tioga Group's study of what can be done with Logistics Park Galesburg.

Galesburg Alderman Russell Flemming and Ken Goad say they were concerned of the extra spending in budgeting for recruitment strategies.

But Economic Development Director Caesar Suarez says in order to fill the business park, there needs to be some kind of marketing effort.

"Put together a marketing plan and money to do some recruitment of industry and make sure that we have tennants that the acres gets absorbed, we have square footage and jobs created," Suarez said. "So the next step after a study like this whether it sits on a shelf or we do something about it. And that doing something about it is to put together a marketing plan and funding behind it."

Council members opted for a motion to only receive the study, eliminating the prospect of having to approve a budget plan come December. But that vote failed 3 to 5.

The City Council followed with a 6-2 majority vote for the Market Study's approval. This gives city administration the OK to develop a marketing recruitment plan for the 330 acre business park that will eventually make its way back before alderman.
