Main Street Conference To Invade Galesburg
For the first time since 1995, the city of Galesburg will host the Illinois Main Street Conference.

110 different people from 48 cities will be represented next Tuesday into Thursday for the conference that focuses on economic development opportunities.

Galesburg's Director of Tourism Judy Guenseth says most cities hosting the Main Street Conference have a convention center.

She tells the WGIL Morning News the Orpheum Theatre will present a unique opportunity as the focal point of this year's conference.

"We also have a history of upgrading our Main Street," Guenseth said. "So what we have tried to do is pick locations downtown such as the Orpheum where the home base is going to be, and then different satelite locations where educational settings are going to take place."

"Plus, they will be utilizing hotels-motels, and they will be in the businesses eating and shopping."

Guenseth says she has been working with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity in planning this years event for eight months.

A variety of forums and speakers are planned beginning Wednesday October 26th, but an ice breaker event called the "Tin Ceiling Tour" will take off down Main Street Tuesday night at seven.
