Frustration Over Orpheum Heating And Air Conditioning Upgrade Project
The firm Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre has been partnering with in order to upgrade their heating and air conditioning systems is apparently close to throwing in the the towel, and that's leaving the theatre's governing body frustrated.

The Knox County Civic Center Authority Board learned Wednesday that Johnson Controls has told theatre president Kate Francis that, even after over a year of negotiating and meetings, they're not going to be able to meet a deadline of March of next year to get the necessary upgrades done. That in turn leaves the theatre in danger of losing a federal grant that would help pay for the work.

For board member Tom Knapp, he's puzzled about one of the reasons why Johnson Controls apparently can't do the work.

"I think the weather entered into to it since we're doing it this time of the year, it's one of their comments in the email," he said. "I would think Ocean would want safety wires and fencing and that type of thing installed anyway. I think that was probably missed in their original proposal. And now they are saying it's on us, which is no excuse."

Knapp cites the fact that apparently Johnson Controls wants more money, among other things, to put up guide wires and scaffolding. They also were apparently under the impression that they could do all the work themselves through one of their subsidiaries, but they instead have to bid out some of the work.
