Another Round Of Teacher Negotiations Ends
The union representing teachers in the Galesburg School District is now suggesting there may not be much more time before some sort of work stoppage or something else occurs.

The Galesburg Education Association Wednesday issued a statement indicating, through Negotiating Team member Leesa Farmer, that, quote, "We are running out of options that keep us in the classroom," unquote. The teachers and the school district have been using a federal mediator, and the most previous contract expired just after the start of the school year.

Farmer claims that the union was prepared to work longer than they did during talks yesterday -- the second day this week. But in an e-mail to WGIL, District-205 Human Resources Director Diane VanHootegem says while it's true that talks Wednesday ended at 2:30pm, that was at the suggestion of the mediator, not the district or union.

Even as the union remains pessimistic, VanHootegem and administrators remain optimistic that some sort of new accord will be reached.

Both sides say the next round of mediation is scheduled for November 7th.
