Congressman Wants To Learn From Libya
Following the death of Moammar Gadhafi, a Peoria Congressman says he's all for the U.S. aiding Libya in their rebuilding.

Aaron Shock of the 18th Congressional District says that the U.S. should learn from the Libya situation in monitoring foreign and defense spending.

"I'm not going to tell them close the base in Germany, I don't think that's wise," Shock said. "But I think we can raise the issue, why do we have so many bases? Why do we have all these people there when these are developed nations now with people that can provide for their own defense."

America's defense spending only takes up around 1-percent of the US budget.

As for Gadhafi's death, Shock is encouraged the long time dictator was captured and killed in Serte Thursday.

"Anytime that democracy is being brought to people through an uprising of their own is a good thing, as opposed to being forced upon people who don't want a democracy or don't know what a democracy is."

Shock suggests the rebuilding process should entail giving money only if the US understands who is taking over the country, and that the US doesn't just hand money over.
