Home Sales Rise Thanks To Good Outlook
Statewide numbers put out by the Illinois Association of Realtors show that September home sales are up 13.5% from a year ago.

Local Realtor Mike Cratty says those numbers are consistent with what Knox County has seen.

He tells WGIL the local average sale and median prices are up since September of 2010, while interest rates are still down.

"People have a good outlook on things, higher dollared homes are starting to sell again," Cratty said. "Last month in the county we had a couple that were over $200,000 as a sales price, and I think that has a lot to do with it in the residential part of it, and I'm talking about residential only."

Cratty says tougher lending practices introduced by the government hasn't hurt the housing markets as some had expected.

He does suggest the seasonably warm weather has helped boost sales also.

But according to Cratty, it's only a matter of time before the sub zero temperatures and snowfall hit, causing significant slow downs.
