Schilling Reacts To Durbin Remarks
Congressman Bobby Schilling remains steadfast in opposing a new Amtrak line that would provide service through the heart of his very own district, and against the wishes of many leaders in that area.

Schilling says he wants funding of current Illinois Amtrak lines, like the routes that go through Galesburg every day, but not new money for a proposed new line from Iowa City to Chicago, passing through the Quad Cities.
Schilling tells WGIL it not that he's opposed to the lines themselves.

"Our country is 14.3 trillion dollars or more in debt, it's all about prioritizing, it's separting not wants from needs," he says. "And I believe that right now it's not a good idea, no different from at home, if there's something that we want, when we are this much in debt, it's not a good idea to create more debt that's going to be funded by the taxpayer."

Schilling says in the voting in the past has shown that he supports funding for current Amtrak lines, and will continue to do so.

Senator Dick Durbin Friday said he supports funding new train lines, accusing those who oppose it of not taking rail travel seriously.

Schilling was in Galesburg Friday in an appearance not announced by his press office.
