No More "Haunted High School" at GHS
What was usually a safe way for local youth to trick or treat during the Halloween months won't be happening this year.

The Galesburg High School Student Council says its annual "Haunted High School" event will not happen this year.

The Student Council's statement lists several reasons for the closure. First, they say due to the current economic conditions of the community, they feel the $1,500 budgeted for the event can be better spent to, in their words, "directly benefit the needy in our community."

They also cite childhood obesity. They say handing out candy to kids isn't advisable given local obesity rates.

Thirdly, they say, participants were urged to bring canned goods to the Haunted High School so that they can be given to local food pantries. Problem is, the Student Council says, hardly anyone did.

So, the Student Council says, they'll try to make a better use out of the money given to them.
