Corn Field Fire in Warren County Actually Due to Car Fire
Illinois State Troopers say it was a car accident that caused a big farm field fire late Friday afternoon in Warren County, not a train.

State Police in Macomb say the accident happened around 4:50 pm Friday, at U.S. 67 slightly north of Illinois Route 116.

They say a car driven by 23-year old Heather Stevenson of Roseville was southbound on 67 when it somehow ran off the side of the road and came to rest in a ditch. The car, troopers say, caught on fire due to the heat of the engine. The car eventually was destroyed, but not before it sparked fires in the grass underneath a car, a harvested corn field, and a standing corn field.

Roseville Firefighters were called to the scene, as were multiple other fire departments from other communities. It also caused Galesburg Firefighters to be on standby for a time in case mutual aid was needed, and it stopped a train on the tracks in that area.

Stevenson was taken by ambulance to OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth with burns to her right arm. She was cited for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.

It's not clear how long it took to get the fire out.
