Rail History Through Art
The National Railroad Hall of Fame has come into what could be described as a treasure trove of railroad photography and art.

Hall Executive Director Julie King says one collection has already come in from the Center for Railroad Photography and Art, and are the winners of a photo contest held last year.

King tells WGIL once this group of photos is seen once, they may otherwise have never been seen again, at least publicly.

"Those photographs, once they are judged and mounted, usually go to the California State Railray Museum, where they'll hang for a time," King said. "And then there is no other identifiable venue they'll normally travel to. So as we begun this partnership I said I would be delighted to have them come to Galesburg."

King says she hopes to set up an exhibit of them, at a location to be determined, but she says they will hopefully also be of use to local educators and photography classes.

King says the Hall of Fame is also going to use part of a Saint Louis-based photography collection as a local exhibit that will be unveiled at next year's Railroad Days.
