| Drug Interdiction At Galesburg's Amtrak Depot |
Police plans to thwart increased drug trafficking by ways of public transportation was in full effect Sunday in Galesburg. Galesburg police say a morning scan of a manifest detailing passenger traffic at the Amtrak Depot revealed a name tied to prior federal cases involving drug sales. They say they were awaiting the arrival of 31-year old Robert Godsil of Galesburg around 12:30 PM Sunday. Reports indicate raised police suspicions because of Denver departure being, quote: "a source city for cultivated cannabis." Records show Godsil exited the train carrying a red suitcase. They say an unmarked Galesburg Police Officer identified himself as G-P-D and asked Godsil if he was carrying anything illegal. Police say Godsil denied carrying any illegal narcotics even after marked-officers approached him with a K-9 unit. A free air sniff of the suitcase by the K-9 triggered a positive alert according to police. Police say they gave Godsil the choice to leave, which he did by foot to the parking lot. After further examination of the suitcase, police say they found three large vacuum sealed sacks with what they determined was cannabis. They then located Godsil in a nearby cab, and took him and the suitcase back to headquarters. Police weighed the cannabis and say the three tightly sealed sacks totaled over 59 ounces, or nearly 1700 grams. Godsil is being charged with possession of cannabis over 500 grams, and manufacturing and delivery of cannabis between 500 and 2000 grams. |
