City Council Makes Decision on Hotel Rezoning and Development
The Galesburg City Council unanimously approved rezoning for a planned hotel and retail-slash-housing development last night.

Alderman voted 7 to 0 in favor of the ordinance supporting the development to be located across the road from the Seminary Square Shopping Center with Alderman Jeremy Karlin recusing himself.

After the vote, Mayor Sal Garza commented on the issue saying he wants negotiations to continue on a buffer zone between the development and Costa subdivision homes.

"I would encourage the various parties make that assertive attempt to make sure that it stays within an affordable range for the residents who seek to purchase these properties."

Raufheisen Development does not have the buffer zone under contract.

The company has put in an offer and are willing to sell the land to residents of the Costa subdivision at cost.
