Jury Ready in Attempted Murder Trial
Opening statements are about to begin in the case of a Galesburg man accused of attempted murder. But that will be without the typical number of jurors hearing the case.

Knox County Circuit Court Judge Paul Mangieri says he will go with only one alternate instead of two for the case of 47 year old Sterling Nicholson, facing counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery, and Aggravated Domestic Battery.

Mangieri announced that around noon, saying that jury selection has taken two and a half days in this case, and he wants to move things along in the interest of time, and so that other cases can eventually be tried.

The jury will be made up of eight women and four men, along with one female alternate.

Nicholson allegedly assaulted his 41 year old girlfriend during an altercation January 21st on South Whitesboro Street.

The women suffered from injuries including bleeding on the brain, and spent time in a Peoria hospital.

Opening statements will begin at 1:30, following preliminary jury instructions being given. At least one witness will be called this afternoon.
