Victim Testifies in Attempted Murder Trial
The woman suspected of being assaulted by a Galesburg man charged with attempted murder has taken the witness stand.

47 year old Sterling Nicholson faces attempted murder and other charges for the beating of a 41 year old woman who was his girlfriend back in late-January.

That woman, who was identified in court but who we're choosing not to identify, testified that she remembers part of the day leading up to the attack. She admits to drinking, smoking marijuana, ingesting crack cocaine, and doing other things before the attack, but doesn't remember the attack itself.

She also claims she doesn't remember writing letters after the attack to Nicholson, nor does she remember making phone calls to Nicholson.

On cross-examination, the victim told the court she doesn't remember calls where public defender Jim Harrell claims she said things like "They're not going to let us communicate" and "I told them I don't believe you did this,"

The victim has since gotten married, and claims she doesn't drink or do drugs anymore.

The victim's son also testified this afternoon. Testimony will resume tomorrow morning at 8:30.
