Assistant States Attorney Looking for Debate
Knox County Assistant States Attorney Erik Gibson was all prepared to debate current states Attorney John Pepmeyer but after several failed attempts by Gibson to get Pepmeyer on board Gibson held a press conference instead.

Gibson who's running against his current boss for Knox County States Attorney expressed his issues with the way Pepmeyer is handling his current position.

Gibson tells WGIL that when Pepmeyer took office back in 2007, Pepmeyer sent a memo to his entire office stating they need to be more aggressive with DUI's and felonies and that he'd not allow people to dismiss them but Gibson says that's not been the case and Pepmeyer has not followed his own rules.

"In my review of 187 DUI's form last year I found that 50 of them had either been dismissed or charges were amended to allow people a avoid having a DUI."

Gibson says he noticed when looking into the DUI cases that the 50 DUI's dismissed most all had private representation and says that right there shows an imbalance in the system where they're favoring the haves various the have nots.
