City Council Tackles Unfinished Business
The Galesburg City Council, to borrow an old term, went a little long last week, so they have some items to attend to before a scheduled work session tonight.

Aldermen will take up around a dozen or so items on their agenda from last Monday's meeting they never got to due to lengthy discussions on items like the proposed hotel development near the Seminary Square Shopping Center.

Among them, some more property demolitions, the renovation of sand bunkers at Bunker Links Golf Course, and the city's participation in a statewide debt recovery program.

The council will then hold a work session on the city budget -- this time, they'll deal with external agency funding. Last year, aldermen supported funding a number of programs, despite shortfalls in the city's budget.

The Galesburg City Council meeting starts at 5:30 tonight.

The Galesburg School Board moved its monthly meeting to tonight as well, and could end up hiring a new superintendent. Gene Denisar is slated to retire at the end of the year, but Board President Natalie Kessler told WGIL last week she couldn't say if the new hire will be on an interim basis or not, saying that would come out tonight.

Several items related to the District's Master Facilities Plan will also be taken up tonight, when the District-205 board meets at seven o'clock at Lincoln School.
