Early Voting Begins in Galesburg
With the election fast approaching, early voting in Galesburg has begun.

Heavy turn out resulted Monday morning.

Prior to today 799 people voted through absentee ballot.

Galesburg has seen 148 people vote this morning with 947 people voting in total as of 2:00 this afternoon.

Executive Director of the Board of Elections Commission Lisa Watson says they are staying busy at the counter.

"Well we did expect for there to be an increase in voting because of early voting starting in general. Yes I do think it's heavier today because it is the first day of early voting."

Watson says the 2008 election is their comparison bar.

Just over 33-hundred voters cast their ballot early in that election year.

Watson says convenience is the greatest benefit of early voting.
