Investigations into Two Galesburg Home Fires
Galesburg Firefighters say they're still trying to figure out the cause of two fires that occurred within hours of each other this morning.

Fire Battalion Chief Todd Peterson says crews were called to the first blaze at 280 North Cedar Street around 5:15 am, after police officers on patrol noticed smoke and possibly fire coming out of the home.

Peterson says it was a struggle to get the blaze out, but that it was under control in an hour or so. He says it's believed to have started on the second floor of the home, extending up into the attic, and a little bit into the first floor.

Peterson says the fire was, in his words, pretty intense, but no one was hurt. A person believed to be living in the home that was officially unoccupied, wasn't there.

Crews were called to a mobile home in the 100 block of Oren Lane about two and a half hours later, after Peterson says neighbors could see smoke coming from the home.

He says it turns out the fire was contained to a back bedroom and was put out pretty quickly, though the home is being described as a total loss.

The Red Cross says it's assisting five people that were living inside the home when the fire broke out. No one was hurt.
