Galesburg Participates in National Food Day
The Sustainable Business Center and En Season participated in this year National Food Day.

The Purpose of National Food Day is to come together and celebrate sustainable locally grown food and the farmers who grow and raise that food.

HumanLinks Foundation KnoxCorps Fellow Elizabeth Cockrell tells WGIL En Season functions under the National Food Day philosophy everyday and believe in using locally grown products to insure the community is getting the best possible product.

"So we're always working with new growers and that's part of my job this year is to expand to even more growers and really try to source as locally as possible and we go out to each farm that we source from and we ask them 'how are you treating the soil and how do you manage your pests' to make sure they are using the most sustainable methods possible. So we're feeding everybody who comes in with the most sustainable most local food that we can possibly find."

Cockrell says this is the second year the Sustainable Business Center and En Season has participated in National Food Day.

She says they're the only registered event in Galesburg participating in this years National Food Day.

Cockrell says that means if someone was looking for a place to eat they could check out the National Food Day website and would see there's a place in Galesburg that only serves locally grown food.
