Galesburg Man to be Tried on Original Attempted Murder Charges
A Galesburg man will be tried at the end of the year on the original charges he faced for allegedly beating a woman with a brick and trying to force sex on her.

31 year old Cody Thomas appeared in Knox County Circuit Court Wednesday, where it was learned that Assistant State's Attorney Elisa Tanner filed a motion to withdraw a partial plea deal that had been worked out in the case, and is now looking to try Thomas on a Class-X felony charge of Attempted First-Degree Murder, along with charges of Aggravated Battery and Attempted Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault.

Thomas was to plead guilty to a lesser attempted murder charge earlier this month, but Judge Paul Mangieri rejected the deal and recused himself by law from hearing the case.

The case has since been assigned to Judge Scott Shipplett, who agreed to Tanner's motion.

Tanner has also filed a motion intending to seek an extended-term sentence if Thomas is found guilty, which means a possible maximum 60-year sentence.

Thomas allegedly committed the attack the day after Thanksgiving last year.

Thomas will be on trial December 27th and 28th at 9 am.
