Local Politician Steps into New Role
On Thursday students at Galesburg High School walked into school under the leadership of a new principal--sort of.

State Representative Don Moffitt spent the morning and part of the afternoon walking the halls of Galsburg High School with Principal Roy Van Meter talking with students and staff.

Moffitt tells WGIL it never fails to amaze and impress him how much time and work goes into a principal's job no matter how big or small the issues can be from day to day.

"I'm always amazed at the variety of duties, variety of challenges, the variety of experiences the principal has dealing from maybe it's to talk over somethings with parents or deal with a situation involving more than one person using a computer and maybe a problem that's developed."

Moffit says he enjoys events like "Principal for the Day" because it allows him to see what works and what doesn't.

He says it allows him to see how education reform is being implemented and the struggles that come with it.

Moffit says sometimes what looks good on paper doesn't mean it works in the practical setting.
